Fishing

While half the family head to the beach, one or two of you may like to rest quietly in a tranquil location and just relax. Or you may wish to conjure up a friendly tournament to see who can land the biggest catch.

Either way, Helston is a great base to start from. With miles of coastline within easy reach for sea fishing, there are also inland coarse fisheries and plenty of equipment shops. A tip from a local – head to the rocks at Rinsey (tiny rocky beach near Breage) and cast your sea rod from there. It’s not the easiest to get to, but you should get lucky. Alternatively head to one of the harbour towns such as Porthleven, St Ives or Mevagissey for a trip out to deep sea.

Newtown Angling Centre

Set on the main road to Penzance it is well placed for Praa Sands and Rinsey.

Middle Boswin Coarse Fishery

Two coarse fishing lakes and a fly fishing lake provide a well-established environment for all skills. They also sell basic equipment, but ring them for details.
